POST-GRADUATE MENTAL HEALTH JOBS

Core Psychotherapy provides insight-oriented, individual counseling services to adolescents and adults. The emphasis is on creating a safe, supportive environment in which to explore and develop insights into underlying feelings and thoughts, and to help clients find new ways of addressing the long-standing issues in their lives.

Our approach is informed primarily by psychoanalytic principles. What this means, in brief, is that we assume that our patients are complex; we avoid manualized one-size-fits-all treatments; we are able to talk about internal conflicts and contradictions in our patients and ourselves; and we consider (counter)transference as useful and important information. Primarily we are interested in helping clinicians to become well-rounded, clear-headed, dynamic, and creative.

We provide on-site and teletherapy options from the warmth of a beautifully restored Victorian building. Great care has been taken to maintain a HIPAA compliant collaborative team when we have to work virtually. Our brick and mortar practice is conveniently located near the intersection of Uptown and Downtown Minneapolis—on major bus routes, easily accessible to multiple highways, and near the greenway. Our team of therapists work in English, and Mandarin, and we are working towards including Japanese and Spanish.

Matthew Paymar, MA, LPCC is a designated supervisor for the Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy (BBHT). We offer competitively compensated mental health counseling positions to post-graduate counselors seeking supervision for LPC and LPCC credentialing. Our training programs accept applications on a rolling basis and provide the following unique opportunities to learn and grow:

● Rigorous engagement with psychodynamic and psychoanalytic principles, but openness to other modalities
● Affirmative individual and group supervision with a keen interest in the personal and professional development of supervisees
● A multi-lingual, interdisciplinary community of therapists to learn from and engage with
● Possibilities to grow your career in the same setting after supervision
● Training in how to run a successful individual or group private practice
● Assistance in professional development
● Flexible start and end dates (although, for the sake of the clients, the expectation is that one would commit to the team for a minimum of 9 months)
● A steady stream of intake queries
● Demographically, we see a lot of people who live in the immediate area, which is fairly diverse ethnically and economically. We have many college students, and graduate students, professors, artists, young professionals, working poor and service workers. Many identify as queer. Since we have a sliding scale and also take Medicaid, the demographic sometimes skews to the less affluent.

Post-graduate fellowships are structured as an independent contracting model. Income is based on the number of clients you see and is competitive with other similar models in the area. We provide referrals, access to in-network insurance clients, a biller, a beautiful space to work (furnished or unfurnished), free supervision and access to all the software and systems we use to run the practice. We strive to provide the best combination of support that an established clinic can offer while also providing the freedom of a private practice.

Our hope is to build a community of clinicians who will want to stay on and provide support to one another. But if, for some reason, it turns out not to be a good fit, clinicians are independent, so they are welcome to take their clients with them wherever they go. If we start together, there is considerable set-up time, so we do ask for a minimum of an 18 month commitment.
